Frequently Asked Questions
Below you may find frequently asked questions and answers regarding the app.
However, in case you still have any question or face any problem with the app, please contact us via email by clicking HERE
Q: What does the app do and how does it work?
A: MyHabeats is a mobile health application. It’s a virtual friend, Lino or Lina, who helps users modify their behavior towards food and gradually adopt new healthy eating habits.
Every day, users log their breakfast time and the app locks the schedule for the rest of the meals, prompting them to have a meal every 3 hours. For every meal they’re consuming, users log the time, the type of food and most importantly the emotion they have before starting their meal, collecting two points every time an emotion is recorded. If they wish, they may also take a photo of their meal. Finally, at the end of every week, users send all saved data.
The virtual friend sends a notification when it’s time for the next meal, as well as personalized messages, in order to inform users about their mood on a daily and weekly basis and also to motivate them so as to maintain or change their behavior.
During this phase (beta version), only the frequency of meals is assessed and not the quality. Thus, you should have and log at least four meals a day, as well as the respective emotion, starting with your breakfast every day, if possible. At the moment, all data are stored in your mobile device which makes it really important to send them every week, as the app will remind you. You can send data, choose your virtual friend, language and modify other settings by clicking and navigating the app’s menu.
Q: How often do I receive notifications and messages?
A: Your virtual friend sends:
• Six notifications daily, one for each meal (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, before bed) in the beginning of every time zone
• One notification every week prompting you to send data
• One message every day regarding last day’s mood
• One message every week regarding your progress during that week
• One message randomly in the week, giving you a tip
MyHabeats’ scientists will also send you a report via email with statistical data analysis regarding your progress every week.
Q: I have downloaded the app but it’s not working. What should I do?
A: The app won’t work unless you accept the Terms & Conditions. Go to that section and check the acceptance box.
Q: I have downloaded the app but I don’t receive any notifications. What should I do?
A: In order to receive notifications and messages from the app, you’ll have to allow notifications through the settings of your mobile device. This can be done through the Notification Center (Settings-Notification Center-MyHabeats-allow all notifications) or through Apps (Settings-Apps-MyHabeats-Allow Notifications) or both. That depends on your device.
Q: I log meals, I get notifications but I don’t receive any messages. What should I do?
A: The app aims at helping users adopt healthy eating habits. During this phase (beta version), only the frequency of your meals is being assessed and not the quality. A: Every time you state your emotion, you get two points. Points are important as they allow us to evaluate your progress, inform you and reward you.
Q: How many emotions can I choose from?
A: Four of the basic emotions are being recorded and analyzed in the app. Joy, fear – including anxiety and stress – sadness and anger. You may select any of these emotions when starting your meal. Should you feel something different, you may note it in the COMMENTS. During this phase (beta version), it’s not possible to automatically select other emotions.
Q: Why are there only four emotions in the app?
A: Four of the basic emotions are being recorded and analyzed in the app. Joy, fear – including anxiety and stress – sadness and anger. Experience in the field of Psychology, as well as extensive research have shown the importance of those emotions in regard to eating choices and habits.
During this phase (beta version), MyHabeats focuses on emotions users are experiencing before a meal. Besides eating regularly during the day, the purpose of the virtual friend is to train users to recognize those four emotions and realize the way they affect them in their food choices.
Q: What are those food suggestions I see? Why are they in the app?
A: During this phase (beta version), only the frequency of your meals is being assessed and not the quality. However, to make it easier for you, a few choices have been included which you may consider in your meal plan or ignore and write down your meal using your mobile phone’s keyboard. ATTENTION! These suggestions do not constitute a personalized diet plan based on each user’s individual needs. For that kind of approach, you should contact a licensed dietitian, nutritionist and/or your doctor.
